This is a list of the basic karate kata. There are nine kata which fit into a basic category. They can be divided into the subcategories Taikyoku, Heian and Tekki. Each has a description and instructive video. Learn or research your karate kata here.
There is only one Taikyoku kata. This is the first and most basic karate kata on this list.
Here are the directions of movement for the first kata: Left, right, forwards, right, left, backwards, left, right.
There are five Heian kata in total. These are some of the more basic karate kata on this list. But they are harder than the Taikyoku. Each starts with a block. This demonstrates their peaceful nature.
2. Heian Shodan
3. Heian Nidan
4. Heian Sandan
5. Heian Yondan
6. Heian Godan
There are only three Tekki basic kata on this list. Their purpose is to help you develop a strong fighting stance. The horse stance is used in all of the Tekki videos. Imagine you are riding a horse to get the right position.
7. Tekki Shodan
8. Tekki Nidan
9. Tekki Sandan

Electric Zoo in 2011
The last day of dance music festival Electric Zoo has been cancelled. This news comes after two people died from suspected drug overdoses. Others have been taken to hospital for drug-related reasons. The last day would have featured music from famous artists such as David Guetta.
Why was Electric Zoo Cancelled?
Two festival attendees died from drug-related causes after attending Electric Zoo (or Ezoo). There were also a number of cases in which people had to be taken to hospital after suffering drug overdoses at the festival. The city of New York claims it asked Electric Zoo to cancel the festival. The request was made due to health risks associated with drug-taking. The festival organisers agreed to finish one day ahead of schedule.
Why were there Drugs at Electric Zoo?
Festivals and drugs seem to go hand-in-hand. A festival is essentially just a big party. There is live music, dancing and a lot of people trying to have fun. But some of those people want or feel like they need to take drugs to fully enjoy the festival experience. This is true of Electric Zoo and other festivals such as Glastonbury.
Below is a video giving you an idea of the atmosphere at festivals like Electric Zoo.

Did Drugs Ruin Electric Zoo for Everyone Else?
Let me just point out that we were not there (in fact, we were on another continent). So this is only hypothetical. But was everyone else’s time ruined by drugs? The people in the above video do look like they are having fun. And there is nothing wrong with that. But the last day of a very popular festival was cancelled because of drugs. Electric Zoo has also got some bad press as a result. So there are probably some people who were at Electric Zoo who feel like drug-users ruined their fun.
Electric Zoo Deaths
There is a more important factor than this though. Electric Zoo’s cancellation has a human side. Two people died and more are in hospital. So perhaps people who wanted to show to go on are just happy that they are safe and well.
On a lighter note, below is the Electric Zoo 2013 Official Trailer.
News for Rome Total War 2 fans. Videos have been leaked showing previously unseen gameplay footage. These are really exciting previews ahead of Rome 2’s release in only a couple of days. The videos show aspects of Rome Total War 2 gameplay which are not in any of the Creative Assembly‘s official releases.
Rome 2 Field Battles Gameplay
This video shows a few Rome 2 Total War battles. The Final one is the most exciting. It shows a Roman fort being besieged and attacked. It is an awesome bit of footage because you can see some of the defensive options which will be available during siege battles. Caltrops, palisades and other features are used to slow the enemy’s onslaught.
Rome 2 Siege Gameplay
This video shows something quite different to the first. It is a Rome 2 Total War siege in which a fortified town is being attacked by a Roman army. Watch the below footage to see battering rams and ballista attempt to reduce the defenders’ walls. Our favourite part? Around the 1:10 mark the ballista knock down a section of wall. Unlike previous Total War games, the mechanics are very realistic. The wall crumbles in on itself and it is really great to watch.
Rome 2 Campaign Gameplay
This leaked video shows unseen aspects of Rome Total War 2 campaign gameplay. It appears that while selecting a faction to play as, you can choose between the major ruling families. E.g. the House of Cornelia or House of Julia if you are playing as Rome. It also shows agents and armies performing their campaign map roles, as well as dynamic city growth.
If possible, these leaked videos have made me even more excited about the upcoming release of Rome Total War 2!
