The last day of dance music festival Electric Zoo has been cancelled. This news comes after two people died from suspected drug overdoses. Others have been taken to hospital for drug-related reasons. The last day would have featured music from famous artists such as David Guetta.

Why was Electric Zoo Cancelled?

Two festival attendees died from drug-related causes after attending Electric Zoo (or Ezoo). There were also a number of cases in which people had to be taken to hospital after suffering drug overdoses at the festival. The city of New York claims it asked Electric Zoo to cancel the festival. The request was made due to health risks associated with drug-taking. The festival organisers agreed to finish one day ahead of schedule.

Why were there Drugs at Electric Zoo?

Festivals and drugs seem to go hand-in-hand. A festival is essentially just a big party. There is live music, dancing and a lot of people trying to have fun. But some of those people want or feel like they need to take drugs to fully enjoy the festival experience. This is true of Electric Zoo and other festivals such as Glastonbury.

Below is a video giving you an idea of the atmosphere at festivals like Electric Zoo.

Did Drugs Ruin Electric Zoo for Everyone Else?

Let me just point out that we were not there (in fact, we were on another continent). So this is only hypothetical. But was everyone else’s time ruined by drugs? The people in the above video do look like they are having fun. And there is nothing wrong with that. But the last day of a very popular festival was cancelled because of drugs. Electric Zoo has also got some bad press as a result. So there are probably some people who were at Electric Zoo who feel like drug-users ruined their fun.

Electric Zoo Deaths

There is a more important factor than this though. Electric Zoo’s cancellation has a human side. Two people died and more are in hospital. So perhaps people who wanted to show to go on are just happy that they are safe and well.

On a lighter note, below is the Electric Zoo 2013 Official Trailer.

Enjoy 🙂
